It has been only eight months of the current year i.e. 2013,
and we have seen numerous cases of data breach. From the incident of Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) leaking more than a hundred thousand social security
numbers to the disclosure of confidential emails by the government of Japan
accidently to its people, the current year has been proven to be a nightmare
for the data security. According to the research conducted by the Ponemon
Institute, it has been revealed that almost 66 percent of the data breaches are
held due to the human errors. The companies should shift their focus a bit and
try fix the problems imposed due to the human errors.
The Identity Theft Resources Centre (ITRC) officially
reported more than 200 identity theft cases in a small span of eight months.
These 212 data breach cases have exposed nearly 4.5 million personal records.
The medical, financial and other important records are easily breached through
the hackers’ attacks and can easily be used for fraud. The companies should
bring the entire thinking tank into play and discuss this big issue of data
leakage. The companies should establish proper security policies and should
implement them strictly. There was a survey conducted about the security
policies and their implementations. The study suggested that not more than 50
percent of the companies establish such policies and out of these 50 percent
companies, only 14 to 15 percent of the companies implement them.
As these hackers are incredibly skillful in breaking through
the security barriers and entering the database, using security software that

individuals or the companies are extremely precious. Data loss can be too
hazardous and costly; it may result in millions of Dollars as there have been
