Galpin Unleashes 1,000HP, Ford GT-Based Monster in Monterey

It’s safe to say that we all miss the Ford GT. 2005′s reiteration of the classic GT40 race car met us with stunning design, and a 550-hp V8. But for now, the Ford GT is long gone, and it may or may not ever make its way back into the lineup.
Now for the good news- California-based tuners Galpin Auto Sports (or you may know them better as GAS), took hold of an original Ford GT, and turned it up a notch in honor of this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours in California.

Officially dubbed the GTR1, the one-off supercar comes with a hefty 1,024-hp via a twin-turbocharged 5.4-liter V8. Top speed sits at “225+ mph,” and to 60 mph, the GTR1 will manage in only 3.1 seconds.
On the outside, the exterior doesn’t paint much the same picture as under the hood. The design clearly derived from the Ford GT, with a few hints of the Shelby GR-1 thrown in (thus, GTR1). Mostly tame and tolerable compared to many modern-day supercars- except for the interior where you’ll find a blinding bright blue leather trim.

Price for all this power will sit at an equally impressive $1,024,000 as only six vehicles will be produced. Galpin says production starts early next year.
