Did Vin Diesel Leak a Future Marvel Movie Crossover?

To say that Vin Diesel likes to talk about his upcoming secret role in a Marvel Studios movie would be like saying that Bruce Wayne likes to dress up in a bat costume and fight crime at night. The more time goes on, the more he seems compelledto do so, all the while protesting that he really can't say anything. His latest revelation, however, suggests that there might be much more going on than just Groot, after all.
Talking to Maria Menounos, Diesel said that his potential voice role in next year's Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't the first role he talked about with Marvel. "When I met with Marvel it wasn't for anything immediate, it was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel -- not for a few years," he said, repeating what he'd told THR last month.
Later, Marvel added the possibility of voicing Guardians' tree soldier Groot, as everyone knows already. But what about that 2016 project he'd initially been approached about? Previously, Diesel had hinted that it would have been an all-new project from Marvel. This time around, though, he described it with traditional restraint as "something so big I can't even talk about because it's like the merging of brands in a way which I won't get into."
It's the kind of statement that is purposely hard to decipher. After all, if it's something like "the Captain America and Guardians of the Galaxy brands combined," it's essentially meaningless in a world where we've already seen a crossover/team-up movie like The Avengers. But if it's the Marvel brand mixing with the Star Wars or Disney brand in some way -- or even Marvel managing to do something with their characters licensed to other movie studios like Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four -- that that really would live up to the billing of something particularly big.
Should we prepare for some genuinely big news coming down the line from Marvel within the next year or so -- or is it simply a case of Vin knowing what to say in order to stay in the headlines as Riddick spends its first week in U.S. theaters? As the Marvel Comics of more than a decade ago put it, U Decide.
